The N501 State Flags set is a series of (36) State Cards. The cards were stock cards used for many different manufacturers. Tobacco cards were the primary advertisers on the cards but they can also be found for candy, gum, home goods like baking soda and powder, and many more. The fronts of the cards use images originally created for the N11 Allen & Ginter Flags of States series. The bottoms of the fronts have a light grey panel and the backs are blank. The artwork is beautiful. Within the N501 classification, about a dozen different tobacco manufacturers have been noted with new ones being frequently found. Different manufacturers used advertising on the front only or advertising on the back only or advertising on both the front and the back.
This lot of (4) cards from the N501 set feature no advertising on the front nor the back. The guides note that the blank cards were likely issued by the American Tobacco Company in packages of cigarettes but without advertising we can really never know. The four cards are all in VG to VGEX and include the following subjects: Connecticut, Illinois, Mississippi and South Carolina.
