Buchner Tobacco issued a number of sets in the 1880's to 1890's and seemed to have somewhat of a penchant for policemen. No less than five of the fourteen Buchner sets include pictures of policemen--N281, N283, N284, N287 and N288. The N281 American Scenes with a Policemen contain nice artistic work of an American iconic spot along with a policeman in the picture. The cards are titled on the front with the characteristic Buchner redemption advertisement on the back.
This lot has a single N281 Buchner American Scenes with a Policeman picturing the New York Harbor Police rescuing someone in the water from a rowboat. The card is in about G condition with a couple creases and moderate corner wear. The back of the card is clean.
