This complete set of (52) cards and one Joker comes with the original slide and shell box. The set was issued by the W.P. Jeffries Company of Los Angeles, California and was copyrighted in 1909. The cards individually picture many famous boxers of the day such as John L Sullivan, Battling Nelson, James J Corbett, Jack Dempsey, Abe Attell, Robert Fitzimmons and many more single pictured boxers. Abe Attell is the infamous 'fixer' of the 1919 World Series with Joe Jackson and the other (7) Chicago White Sox players from the book and movie "Eight Men Out". In addition, there are cards set up in a horizontal format picturing scenes from famous bouts. The Joker card is a picture of James Jeffries with a facsimile signature. The backs of all the cards feature a picture of James Jeffries in a suite and hat with a wry grin on his face.

This set of (52) playing cards and (1) Joker also includes an advertising card. The cards have been played with generally and are in what we would consider VGEX to EX condition. The outer box is in very pleasing VGEX to EX condition. Great set from this popular boxer and of the boxing community in general.
