Auction #7 - February 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/28/2021
This lot of (3) Stereoscopes are albumen photos attached to a cardboard mount. When put into a stereoscope viewer, the offset pair of photos give off the appearance of looking like a 3D view of the image on the stereoscope. Stereoscopes were everywhere during the 1850's/1860's and were precursors to other types of photography. The (3) Stereoscopes in this lot were photos taken by Alfred Campbell who was the photographer of the subjects on the Newsboy Tobacco cabinets. Campbell was located in Elizabeth, NJ--right outside New York City and was a prolific and well-known photographer for the New York and New Jersey area. The stereoscopes here have back advertising for either Honest Long Cut from Duke Tobacco or Seal of North Carolina Tobacco from Marburg Bros. The (3) are in VGEX to EX condition and very clean overall with good photo clarity.
