Kinney Tobacco issued three different horse sets in a small format in the late 1880's to early 1890's. The N229 set were American horses, the N230 were English horses and the N231 set represented Great Trotting horses. The N230 cards as contained in this lot pictured English horses known for winning the bigger races in Europe--especially the English Derby.
This Complete N229 Kinney Brothers Famous Running Horses (American) set has a matched-back set of the cards with the written paragraph. The other versions of N229 have a checklist back and are marginally tougher to obtain. This set is pretty uniformly in VG to EX condition with a couple better and a couple worse.
