S.F. Hess Tobacco was one of the multitude of tobacco companies that produced real albumen photo trading cards during the 1880's into 1890's. In addition to the actress cards, they also issued tough baseball cards of major leaguers, California league players and an odd set of "Newsboys". Most of the Hess series, including their full color chromolithographed sets, are more difficult to find than are the contemporary cards from A&G, Duke, Kinney and Kimball. Hess brands incliuded Creole cigarettes, Diadem, Railroad and others.
This lot of (5) N330 S.F. Hess actress cards have all been graded as PSA7 or Near Mint. The subjects include Zola, Ida Mulle, Annie Boyd, Minnie Lee and Lena Barrett. Zola and Mulle are very clean with great photo clarity with the other three having somewhat lighter photo clarity. Great lot of high grade cards from this 19th century actress series.
