With a hearty "Hi-Yo Silver" the Lone Ranger ran right into the hearts of Americas youngsters. The character first appeared in a Radio Show in 1933 in Detroit, Michigan. The show quickly proved a hit and spawned all manner of collectibles and ultimately a television show 1949 to 1957 featuring Clayton Moore as the Lone Ranger. With his trusty horse Silver and his Indian sidekick Tonto, the Lone Ranger rode the trails of the west, righting wrongs and fighting injustice. The R83 Lone Ranger set was issued in 1940 at the height of the Lone Ranger craze by Gum, Inc of Philadelphia. The set was issued in two 24 card series. As with many of the pre-war gum cards issued in series, the first series is easier to find than the second. In addition to the small card set, Gum Inc issued beautiful oversized 8x10 premium photos that could be had by redeeming gum wrappers.
The premiums were available as a redemption for the Lone Ranger Wrappers found in this lot.
This Lone Ranger Wrapper is in about VG to VGEX condition and very clean and colorful. The wrappers were to be used to redeem to receive the oversized premiums from the R83 Lone Ranger set. The wrappers are extremely difficult to find now due to the high amount redeemed for the premiums. This offers a great opportunity to add to an advanced Lone Ranger collection a piece that is very rarely seen.
