Buchner Gold Coin Tobacco issued a number of sets of cards during the 1880's/1890's that have come to be very collectible today. In addition to the baseball cards that are so well known, Buchner issued cards of Police and Firefighters in both the N284 and N288 series. In addition to the cards, Buchner also issued a set of 200 bifold subjects called Offenders and Defenders.
The set pictured both criminals (offenders) and police (defenders) and are particularly difficult to find. They're printed on thin paper and were gathered to be redeemed towards one of Buchner's many redemption offers. In addition to the Offenders and Defenders cards, there is a matching hardbound album that they produced that pictures all 200 of the subjects with similar artwork. As the only known bound album from the Tobacco issuers, the Offenders and Defenders album, classified A70, is frequently found in better shape than most of the other tobacco albums.
While gauging condition on tobacco albums and books is somewhat subjective, this copy is in arguably G to GVG condition. The internal pages are clean and bright but the cover has some staining--especially on the front cover. The spine and covers are intact with moderate wear to all the corners.
