The Leader Novelty Candy Company of Brooklyn issued a number of iconic sets in 1937. Most of the sets were boxes of candy and small novelties and they caught the eyes of America's kids with subjects like Dick Tracy, Pirates, Cowboys and Indians and many, many more. The Knowledge Box set is a set of (56) different boxes featuring U.S. States and Territories and gives some demographic information about the states on the small boxes. When folded, these small candy boxes measure about 2.25" cubed. The boxes feature a state, what crops and goods the state is known for, a picture of the state capitol and its location, a map of the state and then some details on the bottom about the state such as area, population and location within the United States. There is one flap (pictured) that offers a handsome album for (10) of the coupons and 15 cents to house all (56) Knowledge boxes.
This Leader Novelty Knowledge Box is in very good condition. One flap has an "R" written in pink crayon and the back has some paper issues where the box was separated at the flap that was the single flap holding the box together. The #39 is preprinted on the bottom and may note what number in the set that the Nebraska subject is. One of a number of tough candy boxes in this auction, this is one of only two of these checklisted at non-sport.com--the other being the Philippine islands.
