Fantastic movie card set commemorating the movie "Suzanna". The Patterson Candy Company of Toronto issued this set sometime in 1923/1924. The movie "Suzanna" originally played in 1923. The movie was a Western with the main character played by Mabel Normand--a veteran actress of the silent movie era. The movie was the subject for at least two other sets--one from Canadian company Telfair Biscuits and U.S. chocolates and candy firm Shotwell out of Chicago. The cards are black and white and are numbered on the front in the lower left corner with lengthy titles on each card.
There appears to be two different types of printing in this near set (79/80). One is a somewhat glossy front that appears to be slightly more cream in color and an unglossy front that is whiter. The whiter cards seem to be a bit thicker and in slightly better condition. Approximately 50-% of this set is in G to GVG condition with the remaining 50% in lesser condition. This is a difficult set to complete and the winner will be left with a single card to locate--that of #62. All card fronts and a representative sample page of card backs have been scanned.
