Bowman issued the Red Menace set in 1951--right in the height of the Red Scare in the U.S. Post WWII, the spread of communism was all over the world. Concern grew in many countries about the possibility Communism could take hold. The United States Red Scare--more commonly known as "McCarthyism" was during the period of 1947-1957. While the overall concern was warranted as espionage spiked during this period, the fervor with which Joseph McCarthy and his cronies went about accusing everyone caused a complete panic among people in many circles. Bowman captured this furor in their Red Menace set--picturing the many evils of Communism and it's henchmen across the world.
