The mid to late 1800's were a time where print advertising was coming into its own. Companies printed trade cards to be given out at point of sale and in stores to tout their wares and try to drive more business. Many topics were popular throughout this period. A very common thread were trade cards picturing African American subjects. Often in less than flattering poses and stereotypical memes, these cards were prolific during the 1860's to 1880's. This lot of (33) Trade Cards from the 19th century all picture African Americans in some type of activit and advertise for a variety of products. Most all the cards fall into the G to EX range with most being around VGEX.
