Having ended a mere 24-25 years before, the Civil War and its generals were a popular subject for the late 1880's tobacco sets with Duke leading the way. In addition to the small booklets, album and banner that Duke created, they made these beautiful large format generals cards that Burdick cataloged as N114 in the American Card Catalog. The set has all the best known generals of the Civil War from both the Union and Confederate sides led by U.S. Grant and Robert E Lee. Other notables in the set include Garfield who would later become president as well as Nathan Bedford Forrest--widely credited with starting the Ku Klux Klan.
This lot of (10) N114 Duke Histories of Generals are in Poor to VG condition. Condition issues are almost exclusively limited to back issues and, as such, the fronts of the cards display nicely.
