The 1950 Topps License Plates set is a 100 card set of license plates issued by Topps coming on the heels of their successful 1949 small license plate set that was inserted into the small tabbed gum. The set has 75 different backs. Cards 26-50 have two different plates assigned to them. Cards 1-25 and 51-75 have questions about the states on the backs.
This is a rare opportunity to obtain a #1 set on the PSA Registry (OK, it’s also the only such set on the Registry, but it’s a beauty!) This set contains 93 of the 100 cards issued, and all are PSA-graded. The fronts depict license plates of 48 US states plus Quebec and the District of Columbia. The backs contain a color picture and a quiz, relating either to a car model or to a US landmark. However, the backs on all the cards in this set are obscured by the ”scratch-off” coating, which is virtually intact on all cards. The average PSA grade is 6.89, which is very close to Near Mint. However, because this set contains virtually all the highest-graded cards in existence, PSA has assigned it an astounding GPA of 8.667 (with top POP bonuses.) In all, 76 of the 93 cards are 1 of 1, with none graded higher! An additional 13 cards are 1 of 2, with none graded higher. This set is of amazing quality, and is the finest which could be assembled. All cards stored in plastic pages in two looseleaf binders, for convenient viewing. Gorgeous!
