The W539 Charlie Chaplin strip set is actually a couple different sets with different printing characteristics that are 10 to 12 cards in length each. The crude strip sets were likely issued in the 1920's as point-of-sale premiums for purchase of candy or some other product or were for sale directly by strip. Charlie Chaplin was likely the most popular comic actor of all time but especially of the 1920's and 1930's. The comic actor created his most popular screen persona, the Tramp which is the one everyone is most familiar with. The strip cards in W539 typically measure 1-1/2" Wide by 2-1/2" High.
