One of the many oversized sets Duke issued was this 25 card set of "Presidential Possibilities" of 1888. Two of the subjects would eventually become U.S. Presidents--Benjamin Harrison of Indiana and William McKinley of Ohio. Many of the other possibilities are mostly unknown but some were subject pictured on other card sets in the 1880's including Chauncey DePew, James Blain, David Hill and Walter Q Gresham--all pictured in the N567 Newsboy Tobacco set among others. The 25 different subjects represent a number of states with New York (5) and Ohio (4) having the most subjects. The fronts of the cards have nice color busts of the subjects and the backs include a checklist of the cards and advertisement for Duke's popular Honest Long Cut brand.
The condition breakdown on this near set includes (4) PSA-graded cards including: Rusk PSA5(MK), Gorman PSA5(MK), Donnelly PSA3(MK) and Flower PSA2. The remainder of the ungraded cards include: (11) Good including: Alger, Campbell, Carlisle, Depew, Fuller, Gray, Hawley, Mckinley, Hill, Peffer, Whitney (6) VG including Blaine, Butler, Foraker, Gresham, Pattison, Sherman and (2) VGEX with Cleveland and Palmer. The set is missing only Benjamin Harrison of Indiana and Robert T Lincoln of Illinois to be complete. Although the technical grades of the ungraded cards are low, the overall look to the set is quite nice.
