The 1957 Topps "Hit Stars" set is an 88 card set picturing the hit stars of movie, television and recording stars. Famous stars like Elvis Presley, Steve Lawrence, Debby Reynolds, Jerry Lewis, Nat King Cole, Little Richard and man many more make this set popular with music fans.
This 88-card series features color portraits
of movie and recording stars from the mid-1950s. Biographical notes appear on the back, as well
as a “quiz question.” The selection of subjects is a little odd; big names such as Frank Sinatra
and Audrey Hepburn are missing, while some individuals, such as James Dean. Jerry Lewis and
Tony Curtis enjoy multiple cards. Despite this shortcoming, this is an outstanding specimen of a
very popular and enjoyable series. Plenty of high-grade cards, including seven graded by PSA,
averaging 6.6 (NM-). The last card (#88, Debbie Reynolds) is graded PSA-7. The high-demand
#59 Elvis Presley is a PSA-6 EX-MT. The #1 card, although a bit off-center, has claims to a NM
grade. Although not completely immune from the centering issues which plague this series, I
judge it well above average in this regard. You will likely not see a set of comparable quality come
on the market for a long time! All cards stored in Cardsaver 1 holders and mounted in plastic
pages in a looseleaf binder, for convenient viewing. Fun!
