The 1956 Topps Jets set is a (240) card series from Topps in a smaller than normal format for the timeframe. The cards measure 2-1/16" wide by 2-15/16" high and have glossy uniform fronts with red white and black graphics and the card number in the lower left. The inset picture of the jet is in black and white. The card backs have a graphic of the plane with details about the specifics of the plane such as speed, range, ceiling, weight, length and span. The set is a great early nonsports offering from Topps. The set has a companion album for placing the cards and the set was issued in both one and five cent packages.
This unique 240-card series features black-and
white glossy photos of the most prominent aircraft of the mid-1950s, both civilian and military.
Featured are jets, prop planes, balloons, helicopters, etc. This superb, well-centered set features
sharp corners and edges throughout. The full-bleed red bottom border is notorious for showing
early sings of wear; you will be astounded at how many of these red borders in this set are fully
intact! Only a handful of cards require upgrade to achieve full NM status. Cards #3 and #148 hav
been graded NM-MT 8 by PSA. Also included are “inverted back” specimens of cards #148 and
#228. You will likely not see a set of comparable quality come on the market for a long time! All
cards stored in Cardsaver 1 holders and mounted in plastic pages in a looseleaf binder, for
convenient viewing. Magnificent! Also included is an empty like-new original album, as issued by
Topps.
