The S58 Hamilton King silks set of Athletic Girls silks is a (25) subject set that is part of a larger set that includes Generals, Indians, Baseball Players, Flags and other subjects. The silks measure 7" by 9" and feature colorful images created by Hamilton King that were also used on trade cards, other format silks, large format leathers and other redemption pieces for the American Tobacco Company in the 1910's into 1920's. The S58 set is notable for the female sports characters included with the Basket Ball and Golf Girls being the most desirable. The basket ball girl is particularly desirable as it is one of very few very early basketball pieces available as tobacco inserts or redemption pieces.
This single S58 Hamilton King Large Silk features the Golf Girl subject. The silk has a pretty moderate stain in the upper right corner and some wear and soiling on the extreme borders. The silk is #32 in the series. The image on the front, however, is unblemished and very nicely preserved.
