Auction #16 - February 2024

The N2 Allen & Ginter American Indian Chiefs is the small format companion to the N36 larger format set in Lot #1. The N2 set pictures the same (50) American Indians using the same interior picture artwork as the larger format set. The artwork for this set would be the basis for countless other sets into even the 1930's. The set pictures Indian Chiefs from all over North America with subjects like Geronimo, Sitting Bull, Chief Joseph and others. The set represents possibly one of, if not the most popular sets of the 19th century small format chromolithographed cards. They are highly sought and very popular with collectors not only of tobacco cards but of Western and Indian ephemera.
Within the N2 set, four cards were reprinted with the same title but a different, corrected photo. The four 'error' cards are significantly more difficult to find and are coveted by the master set completist types. They are also in high demand for type collectors as well.
This lot of (10) cards from the N2 Allen & Ginter American Indians set is in generally VGEX or less condition with a number of the cards showing discoloration on the back of the cards likely from album removal. The card fronts are clean, however, and display nicely. The lot includes the following subjects: Always Riding, Big Elk, Black Hawk (Sioux), Bull Head, Clam Fish, John Grass, Keokuk, Many Horns, True Eagle and White Shield.
