Inaugural January 2019 Auction
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 1/27/2019
“Sergeant Preston of the Yukon” first appeared as a radio show in 1950, and then in 1956 as a TV show aired by CBS. A 36-set series of cards was issued each year, with identical artwork and narrative. The only distinguishing features are that the 1950 series contains the words “Challenge of the Yukon, Inc” (and sometimes, “1950”) on the back, while the later issue features “Copyright, 1956, by Sergeant Preston of the Yukon, Inc.” on their backs. This lot contains full 36- card sets of each issue. In addition, it contains a complete 35-card set of “Challenge of the Yukon Dog Cards” issued in 1950 to promote the radio series. Never mind that many of the dogs depicted would never set foot in the Yukon! Condition overall is high, with some backs showing a bit more toning than others. All cards impressively mounted in Cardsaver 1 plastic holders displayed in plastic pages inside a sturdy looseleaf binder. Magnificent! Includes several bonus items, including a color and two B/W publicity photos, a May 1956 issue of TV Guide in superior condition containing an article about the TV series, a facsimile of a Yukon “deed of land” issued in conjunction with the 1956 TV series, A Sergeant Preston mini-comic (“How he found Yukon
King”, and a genuine vintage Sgt Preston brass whistle. A wonderful assortment of Sgt Preston memorabilia!
