The R137 Goudey Sky Birds set is a (24) card set issued by Goudey in 1941. The blank-backed cards are colorful renditions of airplane battles and each card is numbered on the front lower left and has a very short information capsule detailing the planes range and where they typcially fly. Many of the 1930's and 1940's card sets were issued as "spotter" cards so kids could see the cards and if they spotted airplanes they could let parents know in the event that there were any attempts to fly over the U.S. during WWII. The set pictures airplanes from the U.S., Germany, France, England and other countries. The cards in the set can be found with either cream colored backs or gray backs. There doesn't appear to be a significant difference or premium for either version of the cards.
This complete (24) card set is a mix-backed set that generally is in VG to EX condition with a few worse. All backs are gray with the exception of #6, 8, 9 and 19.
