The 1970 Topps Man on the Moon set pictures scenes from the space race. The set is a colorful (99) card set picturing the astronauts and space vehicles from the space race.
IIn 1969, Topps issued a 55-card set to commemorate the first manned landing on the
moon. A year later, it issued an expanded version of the series, with 99 cards. The fronts feature
glorious color photos of the US space program, with the backs serving as pieces to several
puzzles. Interest in this series is increased by the numerous “errors” which have been discovered;
at least 32 “fronts” were printed with at least two different backs. Some fronts have 3 different
backs! I have not been able to ascertain precisely how many such variations exist, but this set
contains 35 such printing errors, yielding a total of 134 cards. This set is overall quite a high
grade, with many NM cards, and above-average centering. Two graded cards are included, #18
(PSA-8) and #40 (PSA-8). Impressively mounted in Cardsaver 1 plastic holders displayed in
plastic pages inside a sturdy looseleaf binder. Also included is an original 10-cent wax wrapper in
outstanding condition. Absolutely gorgeous!
Originating in the collection of a very advanced PSA collector, this set and a number of others in the auction are high mid-grade sets mostly free of creases and individually sleeved in semi-rigids housed in 4 pocket pages in binders. As with this set, many of the sets are mostly ungraded with some nice or key cards graded as noted.
