The 1964 Topps Beatles Color set was the first of a number of Beatles sets from Topps in the mid 1960's. The Beatles rose to fame in England in the very early 1960's and by February of 1964 had jumped across the pond to the United States and appeared on the Ed Sullivan show on Feb 9, 1964. From that point on, there was no turning back for them. They became worldwide phenoms and sold millions and millions of albums while gaining an unparalleled fan base. The 1964 Topps Color set is a (64) card set picturing the band in photo fronts with white borders and backs with salmon-colored background and details about the band. Cards are numbered in the upper left corner of the backs in a black circle.
This 64-card series features color photos of the Fab Four, with Q&A with Beatles
members on the back. A very attractive series, difficult to locate in high grade, and with the usual
centering problems of this era. This set averages a crisp near mint, with strong, all-important
“portrait” cards #1 through #4. Centering is above average. All cards impressively mounted in
Cardsaver 1 plastic holders displayed in plastic pages inside a sturdy looseleaf binder.
Magnificent!
Originating in the collection of a very advanced PSA collector, this set and a number of others in the auction are high mid-grade sets mostly free of creases and individually sleeved in semi-rigids housed in 4 pocket pages in binders. As with this set, many of the sets are mostly ungraded with some nice or key cards graded as noted.
