Topps sought to capitalize on the music group the Monkees by issuing a set of cards in 1966. The cards were so popular that they issued (3) more series and also a set of "flip books". The Monkees were an American rock and pop band, formed in Los Angeles in 1966, whose lineup consisted of the American actor/musicians Micky Dolenz, Michael Nesmith and Peter Tork alongside English actor/singer Davy Jones. The band was so popular a sitcom of the same name ran for two seasons and 58 episodes from 1966 to 1968 on NBC television.
