The R161 Walt Disney Comics Strip card set was apparently issued in 1944. It's unknown who created the set and how it was distributed but due to its similarity with other strip card sets from a similar time frame it is assumed it was some type issue associated with gum. The set numbers 32 cards and has four cards each for eight different Walt Disney characters--Donald Duck, Dumbo, Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse,Goofy, Joe Carioca, Pluto and Panchito. The front of the cards are full color drawings with a title in a red banner at the bottom of the card and the backs of the cards are completely blank. Walt Disney created Mickey Mouse in 1928 and by 1944, many of the Disney characters were loved by children and adults alike. Disney released Snow White in 1937 and hits like Pinocchio, Fantasia, Dumbo, Bambi and others had been released by 1944. Disney released the Three Caballeros in 1944 and it's believed, due to the inclusion of Panchito and Joe Carioca, that R161 was issued in and around that date.
Condition breakdown on this set is clean EX to EXMT overall and very uniform in condition. Super clean set and early Disney collectible grouping.
