The R164 Gum Inc War Gum set was issued in 1941 right at the beginning of the World War II war effort. The set is a 132 card set picturing famous Americans involved in the war effort and scenes of the war effort itself. There are ships, artillery fire, planes, soldiers, seamen and other scenes in the set. Famous participants in the set include President Roosevelt, Gen Douglas MacArthur, Winston Churchill, George Marshall and others. In general, the cards picturing war heroes are set in a vertical pose and the scenes are in horizontal pose. This is a great set that was one of so very many during World War II.
This lot is for an original piece of artwork from the R164 Gum Inc War Gum set of the subject #22 Dutch Sea-Air Offensive. The piece measures about 5" by 8" and includes a pen and ink drawing on a thicker matboard with an onion-skin type paper over that drawing that has been inked in color by hand. When the top layer lays on top of the bottom pen and ink drawing it mirrors what the finished card looks like. The overall piece is in VGEX condition. The back of the thicker pen and inked drawing has some glue at the top where it was likely mounted at one time. This represents a great opportunity to get an original piece of 1940's trading card artwork.
