The N157 Sunny South Series are a series of tobacco cards picturing African American subjects--often in racially stereotyped poses. The set can be found with advertising from a number of different tobacco companies and brands including Honest Long Cut and Gail & Ax Bob'Link from Duke tobacco or Sweet Lavender and Old Gold from Kimball. Not all subjects have been seen from all brands.
This lot is for a single N157A Honest Long Cut Sunny South card of a man eating watermelon. This racial stereotype is pictured on a few tobacco cards of the day and, while offensive to most, is also collected by many. The card is in about Poor condition with part of the advertising panel at the bottom cut off.
