Auction #11 - June 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/26/2022
The L1-L9 leathers are the largest leather premiums that were issued in the 1910's as premiums from tobacco purchases through saving coupons. They are die cut to look like animal hides and then have an image stamped onto the leather. The L4 is a subset of this run of leathers that contains (5) different military men on horseback. Those subjects include Lee, Grant, Napoleon, Buffalo Bill and the George Washington that is in this lot.
This leather measures about 9.5" by 11.5" in size and is in what would be best described VG to VGEX condition. The leather is numbered "201" at the bottom tip and has pinholes in (3) spots along the top. The piece retains a beautiful patina, however, and has a fantastic appearance.
