Auction #11 - June 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/26/2022
This lot contains a pair of die cut scraps that would have been used to embellish a Victorian scrapbook in the late 19th century. One has a gold colored background with a U.S. shield and eagle embossed into the scraps piece. The other is embossed and pictures James Garfield with the words "Yours Forever" in the foreground among a group of flowers and two flags. Garfield was shot four months into his presidency in 1881 and died two months later. This scraps piece was likely issued after his death to commemorate the event. The smaller piece is about an inch squared with the larger piece measuring about 2-1/2" wide by 1" tall.
