Napoleon Sarony was an American lithographer and photographer. He was a highly popular portrait photographer, best known for his portraits of the stars of late-19th-century American theater. Sarony photographed many of the stars and political figures of the day from the 1860's until 1890's. This cabinet pictures a middle aged Edwin Booth who was a stage actor and more famously known as the brother of John Wilkes Booth--Assassin of Abraham Lincoln. Some historians consider Edwin Booth to be the greatest actor of the 19th century and greatest American author.
