No one figure represented the spirit of the Wild West more than did William Cody or "Buffalo Bill". William Frederick Cody was born on February 26, 1846 in the Iowa Territory and passed in January 10, 1917 in Denver Colorado. During that 70 year life span, no one did more to glamorize the lifestyle of the Wild West than did "Buffalo Bill" Cody. One of the most famous and well-known figures of the American Old West, Buffalo Bill's legend began to spread when he was only 23. Shortly thereafter he started performing in shows that displayed cowboy themes and episodes from the frontier and Indian Wars. He founded Buffalo Bill's Wild West in 1883, taking his large company on tours in the United States and, beginning in 1887, in Great Britain and continental Europe.

This cabinet photo of Buffalo Bill features an albumen photo mounted on a larger mount. The photo itself measures 6-1/8" wide by X 8-3/16" tall. The mount measures 10" wide by 12" tall. The cabinet is in EX to EXMT condition and very clean and features Buffalo Bill sitting in a chair. The photo pictures him likely in his later years after the turn of the century. This would put him somewhere in his late 50's through his death at 70. There are numerous available 4" by 6" cabinet cards of Buffalo Bill-many mass produced by the photographer Stacy that routinely sell for $300-$500 but this is one of few that we have seen in this large format.
