With a hearty "Hi-Yo Silver" the Lone Ranger ran right into the hearts of Americas youngsters. The character first appeared in a Radio Show in 1933 in Detroit, Michigan. The show quickly proved a hit and spawned all manner of collectibles and ultimately a television show 1949 to 1957 featuring Clayton Moore as the Lone Ranger. With his trusty horse Silver and his Indian sidekick Tonto, the Lone Ranger rode the trails of the west, righting wrongs and fighting injustice. The R83 Lone Ranger set was issued in 1940 at the height of the Lone Ranger craze by Gum, Inc of Philadelphia. The set was issued in two 24 card series. As with many of the pre-war gum cards issued in series, the first series is easier to find than the second. Although card numbers 37-48 are considered the "high" series, cards #25-36 were printed on the same 24 card sheet and are likely just as tough to find.
The cards in this complete R83 Gum Inc Lone Ranger set run the gamut from Good to EX with most being in the VG range. This set has (2) cards graded to include the following subjects: #7 Poisoned Waters (PSA4 VG-EX) and #23 (PSA3 VG). This is a clean, lower mid grade set with no major faults.
