Auction #9 - October 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/24/2021
The C271A Sweet Caporal Airplane Spotter set was issued in Canada as part of Sweet Caporal cigarette packages. The cards were the back panels of the packages and meant to be cut and collected. The set has (66) Numbered cards most of which have numerous variations. To date, Skytamer.com checklists a total of 136 different cards within those 66 numbered cards. There are also a pair of unnumbered cards for tail and for wing markings. The cards vary in size due to the package size variation and often due to how the cards were cut from the packaging. The subject matter was highly popular--especially around the time of issuance in the early 1940's. Aircraft Spotter cards were issued for people to know which airplanes were friend or foe and were issued as kind of a primer for kids and adults alike to be on the lookout for the enemy during a period of World War.
This lot includes a numbered near set of (63/66) cards and the two Wing/Tail cards. The missing numbers are 56, 65 and 66. The near set is in Good to EX condition with most cards being in VG to VGEX. Eight cards have been scanned that are representative of the condition of the near set.
