The N45 Dixie Cigarettes were a group of albumen photo actress cards that were issued by Allen & Ginter in their Dixie cigarettes products in the late 1880's to early 1890's. According to the World Tobacco Index (WTI), there are at least 12 different 'types' of the cards--some of which have three or four subtypes. The cards picture actresses, some of which are named with others unnamed. The fronts of the cards and the advertising types on the front are how the cards are classified into different sets and subsets. The Dixie brand, as a whole, is more difficult to find than the more ubiquitous Virginia Brights brand--the flagship of Allen & Ginters 19th century empire.
This lot is for a single type of N45 Dixie Cigarettes cards of subject #847 Annie Somerville. The card has a circular spot of surface loss right on Somerville's shoulder in the upper center of the card but would otherwise be in VGEX condition.
