Buchner Tobacco issued a number of sets in the 1880's to 1890's and seemed to have somewhat of a penchant for policemen. No less than five of the fourteen Buchner sets include pictures of policemen--N281, N283, N284, N287 and N288. The N281 American Scenes with a Policemen contain nice artistic work of an American iconic spot along with a policeman in the picture. The cards are titled on the front with the characteristic Buchner redemption advertisement on the back.
This lot of (6) cards from the N281 Buchner American Scenes with a Policeman are generally in Poor to VG condition with most being around Fair to Good. They are presentable though and are rarely found in large groups like this one. The subjects in the lot include: Inter-State Industrial Exposition Chicago, Old City Gate St. Augustine, Allegheny Park Pittsburgh, Military Plaza San Antonio Texas, Prison Work at Sing Sing Hudson River RR and Home of Abraham Lincoln. Great lot of cards for the set builder.
