The N11 Allen & Ginter State Flags set is a 47 card set of states and territories of the United States in the late 1880's. The 47 cards are comprised of 38 states that had received statehood and 9 territories that later became states. The territories include the Dakota territory, which, in 1889, was split into North and South Dakota and on November 2 of 1889 became the 39th and 40th states. So the N11 set was issued sometime in 1888 to mid-1889. The card fronts are colorful representations of the state flag and vignettes of things the states are known for. The card backs contain a checklist and can be found in one of two varieties--one with Richmond Straight Cut No. 1 "Cigarettes" Are the Best and another where the "Cigarettes" is missing. There are subtle front coloring differences between the two different back varieties.

This lot includes (30) cards or 60% of a complete N11 Allen & Ginter Flags of the States and Territories set. The cards are split pretty evenly between Poor to Fair subjects and cleaner VG copies. Sixteen of the (30) cards are of the "Cigarettes" back variety. Great start to a complete set of these popular and highly colorful cards.
