The N253 Lorillard Actresses series is one of a number of Actress sets issued by Lorillard during the latter part of the 19th century. The N253 set has (3) types distinguished generally by the color of the panel on the bottom front of the card and with the subjects in the (3) sub types. The sets include many of the biggest stars of the days like Lillian Russell, Della Fox, Pauline Hall and Isabel Irving--all of which can be found in MANY of the 19th century actress cards. The card backs, like many of the Lorillard's series can be frequently found with spotting which was an apparent side effect of being inserted into Plug tobacco packages.
This lot includes (6) N253 Lorillard "Actresses" from a couple different subtypes. There are (3) Type 1 with blue name panel (small letters) including: Maude Adams, Georgia Cayvan and Adele Ritchie. There are also (3) Type 3 with pink name panel including: Isabel Irving, Phillis Rankin and Theresa Vaughn. A couple of the cards appear to be cut short--whether issued that way or done subsequently. Absent this condition issue, the lot of cards ranges between VG and EX with most being clean front and back. This is a great lot for the set builder.
