The Pulver Gum company of Rochester, NY issued an interesting set in 1935 called Pulver pictures. The tagline on the back of "the greatest assortment of picture cards ever compiled" might have been a little braggadocios but it was an interesting choice of subjects for 1930's children's gum cards. The cards picture war and battle and generally focus on the weapons that were used in these battles. In the gun department, there are cards for hand guns, machine guns, anti-aircraft guns, Gatling guns and an ancient french mortar. There's even a card for short barrel gun on camel (#110). In the older weapon category, cards for the blunderbuss, antique cross bows, boomerang, trebouchet and broad swords exist. The cards have colorful fronts picturing soldiers, policemen and other combatants using the weapons described on the backs. The cards are numbered 100-129.
This near set of R108 Pulver Pictures Weapons in History (27 of 30 cards) is missing only #102, #105 and #120 to be complete. The cards are very uniformly EX to EXMT condition with the exception of #111 Boomerang which appears to have light glue stains on all for back corners. The #129 card is, interestingly, a blank-backed card that may have been hand cut. It is made that way and not missing the back layer of the card. Great, near set, that with a few adds and upgrades could be a very nice set.
