With a hearty "Hi-Yo Silver" the Lone Ranger ran right into the hearts of Americas youngsters. The character first appeared in a Radio Show in 1933 in Detroit, Michigan. The show quickly proved a hit and spawned all manner of collectibles and ultimately a television show 1949 to 1957 featuring Clayton Moore as the Lone Ranger. With his trusty horse Silver and his Indian sidekick Tonto, the Lone Ranger rode the trails of the west, righting wrongs and fighting injustice. The R83 Lone Ranger set was issued in 1940 at the height of the Lone Ranger craze by Gum, Inc of Philadelphia. The set was issued in two 24 card series. As with many of the pre-war gum cards issued in series, the first series is easier to find than the second. This lot includes a complete first series (1-24) and also nine cards from the much tougher second series (37, 40, 41, 42, 43, 44, 45, 47, 48). This lot represents 33 of the 48 cards in the set or 69% of a complete set.
The low number condition breakdown on this lot includes: (5) cards EX condition, (14) cards in VG to VGEX including #1 and (5) lower grade cards. The high number series breaks down with (3) cards VG to VGEX and (6) cards in lower condition including #48 in G.
