Auction #8 - June 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/28/2021
The presidential trade cards in this lot were created for a vehicle for advertising during the 1870's/1880's. The cards typically were from a set of 22 subjects from George Washington through Grover Cleveland. The cards can be found as 'blanks' or devoid of advertising or with advertising from dozens of different companies. The advertising can be on the front only at the bottom of the card front or on the back only or on both the front and the back. The cards are popular collectibles today by the set collector, specific presidential collectors or by type card collectors who like to get a single card of each set with different advertising. Different graphics on the cards can be found in 3-4 different setups with or without borders or with more or less graphics on the card.
This lot of (11) cards contains cards from a few different manufacturers. The groups are as follows: Blank with no advertising (4 cards: Buchanan, Madison, Monroe and Polk), Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company (3 cards with 2 different backs: Ulysses S. Grant, Rutherford B Hayes and John Tyler), CCC Prize Card (1 card: John Quincy Adams), Boston & Meriden Clothing (2 cards: John Hancock and Andrew Johnson) and Boston Branch Shoe Store (1 card: John Tyler). The cards all average about VG to VGEX condition with the exception of the John Tyler Boston Branch Shoe Store card which has two holes punched at the top left and right corner.
