The American Card Catalog has a number of obscure tobacco companies listed in the back of the section for the 19th century tobacco cards. They are generally listed in the N600 and up range and cover cards organized into small tobacco cards and larger cards and include some subjects from advertisers that are particularly difficult to obtain. Type Card collectors are constantly looking for tougher tobacco actress cards and this lot is no different with the N628 H. Bohl's & Company Actress cards. Not a lot is known about H. Bohl's but Jefferson Burdick cataloged them as N628 in the American Card Catalog. Non-sport.com lists (13) known subjects in the series.
This lot is for a single graded copy from the N628 H. Bohl's & Company Actress series. The card pictures Carrie Turner and has been graded by SGC as SGC20 or Fair 1.5. The back has advertising for Paniolo tobacco from M. S. Grinbaum & Co of Honolulu, Hawaii. Phenomenal card for the type card collector. The card appears to be pretty harshly graded by 1-2 grade point levels. Tobacco cards from West Coast tobacco concerns are exceedingly rare for 1880's issues and to find one from Hawaii is even more difficult.
