The R22-2 Big Chief Wahoo Defense Series is a set of (27) difficult to find "Matchbook" covers that picture different types of military defense vehicles including airplanes and ships. The series are much tougher to find than are the R22-1 Big Chief Wahoo "Matchbook" covers that picture the lovable Big Chief Wahoo. The Chicle Ad Corporation was located in Toledo Ohio and these covers were likely issued in the mid-1930's. It is not known which series of covers came first--the Defense Series or the Big Chief Wahoo colorized covers.
This lot of (4) covers from the R22-2 Big Chief Wahoo Defense series includes the following subjects: Battleship, Consolidated, Destroyer and Heavy Cruiser. Condition runs the gamut from poor to EX with varying covers in varying shapes. In addition to the (4) covers, there are (3) of the glassine wrappers that the gum was wrapped in before being stapled into the matchbooks. Great lot of these super tough 1930's gum premiums.
