The R22-1 Big Chief Wahoo set is a set of (9) "Matchbook" covers that can be found in two different formats. The covers are numbered on the colorful side of the cover from one through nine. The back sides of the cover can be found in one of two different formats--either blank or with an advertising back that advertises premiums. The actual matchbook covers did not hold matches but did hold small sticks of gum wrapped in glassine type paper that had matches printed on the outside. The individual pieces were stapled into the cover and they were folded over just like a matchbook. Collecting matchbook covers was a huge hobby--especially in the 1920's-1950's so these covers were issued right in the middle of that time frame.

This lot contains a complete set of (9) of the R22-1 Big Chief Wahoo "matchbook" covers in each of two formats--blank backed and ad-backed--totaling (18) covers. In addition to the covers, there are a pair of the glassine wrappers that the gum was wrapped in that were subsequently stapled into the covers. The covers are in Fair to VGEX condition with most being in VG type range. All covers, front and back, have been scanned for viewing.
