The N11 Allen & Ginter State Flags set is a 47 card set of states and territories of the United States in the late 1880's. The 47 cards are comprised of 38 states that had received statehood and 9 territories that later became states. The territories include the Dakota territory, which, in 1889, was split into North and South Dakota and on November 2 of 1889 became the 39th and 40th states. So the N11 set was issued sometime in 1888 to mid-1889. The card fronts are colorful representations of the state flag and vignettes of things the states are known for. The card backs contain a checklist and can be found in one of two varieties--one with Richmond Straight Cut No. 1 "Cigarettes" Are the Best and another where the "Cigarettes" is missing. There are subtle front coloring differences between the two different back varieties.
This lot is for a complete set of (47) N11 Allen & Ginter Flags of States and Territories. All (47) of the cards are of the variety with no "Cigarettes" on the back. All cards in the set of 47 are in Poor to VGEX condition, averaging GVG to VG condition. In addition to the set are (5) duplicates, two of which are from the "Cigarettes" back variety. Great set of these popular Allen & Ginter 19th century favorites.
