The R65 Goudey Gum History of Aviation is one of the more colorful, large format issue Goudey sets. The (10) "card" set includes (5) aviators and (5) airships and measures 5-1/2" by 5-1/2" in size. Printed on thin paper, the colorful fronts are matched with detailed, biographical backs and have a pair of holes marked for punching to assemble a 10 card booklet. Since no wrappers have been found for these and owing to the large size, it is believed that these could have been point-of-sale promotions in another Goudey product or been given out for purchasing some type of goods from Goudey. Due to the nature of the paper, the set is frequently found in lower grade--creased or with corner issues.
This lot includes a pair of ungraded R65 Goudey History of Aviation cards to include #5 Rear Admiral Richard E Byrd and #7 Hughes' Record Smasher. Both cards are in about VG to VGEX condition.
