The Boer war was fought from 1889-1902 between Great Britain and the two Boer Republics of South Africa. The British won due to a lopsided advantage. A number of cigarette sets picture the combatants and American Tobacco Company (ATC) issued a pair of sets--Series "A" and "B" of the Boer War cards overseas during the early part of the 20th century--just after the war. Seeking to capitalize on the images of war heroes, ATC issued two different versions of the "A" set--one with and one without numbers. The B set had only one version with numbers. Each series numbers (25) cards and are sepia waist-up photos on light beige background cards. The back have the classic ATC "green net" backs and note what series they are.
This lot contains a total of (19) cards--the lot includes (2) series B cards and (17) cards with a mix of numbered and unnumbered from Series A. Condition on the cards ranges from poor to VGEX with most being around GVG to VG.
