Kinney Brothers issued a card set in the late 1880's picturing soldiers of the World and the United States in their normal costumes. The card set is the largest card set in terms of subjects known in the late 1880's and is a popular series for many collectors. The N224 set contains 622 cards from multiple series. In addition to the smaller cards inserted into the tobacco packages, there are a number of different advertising pieces that were issued to help advertise the series.
This oversized, die cut piece is a great advertising piece--likely intended to help drive sales to Kinney tobacco's products that contained the N224 tobacco cards and the military theme was a popular advertising medium for Kinney throughout this post-Civil War world where cigarettes were one of the most popular products. This piece measures about 4" wide by about 13-3/4" tall. The front advertises for Sweet Caporal "Standard Cigarettes". The die cut piece is in VG to VGEX condition with an attached back stand that has a small piece of tape adhered to the top of the piece. Great advertising piece to add to an advanced Kinney Military collection.
