The N512 classification seems to be somewhat of a 'catch-all' classification and inludes cards from a number of advertisers. In almost all cases, the cards of the N512 classification have glossier type fronts--glossier than the average 19th century cards. Cards can be found in a multitude of sizes with advertising for the tobacco company on the front, on the back or on both. Collecting N512 cards can be a daunting task as the occasional card comes up but it is rare to find a large group of them and difficult to put together a 'set' of the cards within a particular issuer due to the fact the cards aren't numbered and it appears that different issuers used different subjects within their sets. They do, however, provide for a fertile field for the type card collector due to the various combinations of advertisers, sizes and types of paper they can be found printed on.
This lot includes a group of (4) N512A cards from Bill Jones His Cut Plug tobacco from the late 19th century. Within the lot, the cards fall under three different sizes with two different types of advertising on the back. Two of the cards have advertising oriented in a 'portrait' manner using dark blue ink. The other two cards have advertising oriented to the horizontal with a light purple coloring. Great group of (4) cards for the 19th century collector.
