The N167 Goodwin Tobacco set is one of the very earliest Goodwin Tobacco card sets and from the earlier part of the 1880's if not earlier. The cards picture actresses and other celebrities as well as baseball cards. The later are typically very difficult and worth many thousands of dollars. That you could pull a card from a tobacco card pack in the early 1880's that might be an actress or baseball player is interesting in itself but the disparity in value between the two cards just shows how supply and demand works. The actress portion of the set is of an undetermined size. The cards are sepia in tone and have blue printed backs on them.
This lot is for a single copy of N167 Goodwin Tobacco Old Judge actress card. The Old Judge and Gypsy Queen cards in the N167 are some of the earliest tobacco cards issued by Goodwin & Company in the mid-1880's. These sepia toned cards have great lithography with blue toned printing on the backs advertising for Old Judge. This particular card is graded as PSA1 or Poor and has significant creasing and some stains on the front but a mostly clean, blue-printed back.
